Hazrat Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم said; “Whoever has three qualities, Allah Ta‘ala جل جلاله will grant him an easy reckoning and will admit him into paradise.”
Hazrat Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه immediately said to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم; “May my parents be sacrificed for you. Which three qualities are being referred to?”
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم replied; “To spend upon the one who withholds, to join ties with those who sever ties, and to forgive those who harm one. If you accomplish these, you will enter paradise.” (Targhīb, Vol 3, Page 341 – Bazzār / Tabrānī
/ Hākim)
Note: There are many more Ahādīth of this nature, wherein Sayyiduna Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم stressed the importance of the above-mentioned actions. Maintaining family ties is not always easy. Despite relatives’ indifferent attitudes, one should maintain ties and exercise patience upon the agony endured.
The underlying message in the above three advices is to avoid repulsing wrong with wrong; rather it emphasises the need for one party to be magnanimous and level-headed when confronted with adverse situations.
