Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (Radiyallahu’anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said, “Blessing (barakah) is with your elders/ seniors.” Explanation: Elders refers to those who are experienced and punctual on good actions. Remain in their company so that you can follow their advices and attain guidance through emulating their ways. (Faydul Qadir, Hadith :3205)

Four Signs of Wretchedness

Hazrat Hasan Al-Basri رحمه الله is reported to have said; “There are four signs of wretchedness:

  1. (Having) a hard heart
  2. Dry eyes (that never cry)
  3. Extended hopes (about this life)
  4. And greed and keenness to amass worldly things (the dunyaa).”

(Ibn Abi Al-Dunya, Kitab Al-Zuhd article 36)
