وعن أبي بردة بن نيار رضي الله عنه قال : قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : «ما صلى علي عبد من أمتي صلاةً صادقًا من قلبه إلا صلى الله عليه بها عشر صلوات، ورفعه بها عشر درجات، وكتب له بها عشر حسنات، ومحا عنه بها عشر سيئات (القول البديع ص245)
Hazrat Abu Burdah bin Nayyarرضي الله عنه narrates that Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم said, “No Ummati of mine sends durood upon me with an honest heart, except that through it, (the Durood) Allah Ta’ala sends ten salutations (i.e. rewards him and showers His mercy) upon him, raises his rank by ten stages, records ten good deeds and erases ten of his bad deeds.”
Reciting Durood is Incumbent upon Everyone
Allah Ta’ala, the angels and mankind, all recite Durood on Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم. The Ulama have discussed at great length whether the Durood and Salaam of all the specified parties is the same or not. When Durood is attributed to Allah Ta’ala, the meaning is different, when attributed to the angels, the meaning is also different and when attributed to man, the meaning is different as well.
Whatever the different meanings may be, the primary point is that it is incumbent upon everyone to recite Durood upon Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم.
Shower of love
Hadhrat Moulana Fadhl-ur-Rahman Ganj Muradabadi رحمة الله عليه has translated Durood as the shower of Allah Ta’ala’s love on Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم.
The Gist of Durood
The gist of Durood is beseeching Allah Ta’ala to shower His complete mercy and peace of both the worlds on Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم. It is a du’aa for Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم.

Dalaa’ilul Khairaat
Q: I wanted to know if it’s possible to ask Mufti Saab regarding the Dalail Al khayrat… And it’s virtues… Is it authentic and if we read it every day what are the benefits..? Jazak Allah
الجواب حامدا ومصليا ومسلما
A: It is a very Mubarak kitaab containing different wordings of Durood Shareef on Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلمwritten by a scholar Imam Muhammad bin Sulaiman Jazuli رحمه الله (807A.H. – 870A.H.). It is mentioned that he once set out on a journey. During the journey, he required water to perform wudhu. Subsequently, he came across a well, but due to not having a bucket and rope, he could not draw out the water from the well. Out of concern for his salaah, he became extremely worried.
While in this state, a young girl (who was not yet baaligh) saw him and came to him. She asked him what the matter was, and he explained to her the problem. She immediately spat into the well whereupon the water rose to the top of the well by itself. Witnessing this miracle performed by the young girl, he was overcome by surprise and thus asked the girl, “How did you perform this miracle?” The girl replied, “This was through the blessings of the Durood which I have recited upon Nabi صلى الله عليه وسلم.” It was this miracle that motivated him to write the book Dalaa’ilul Khairaat.
Allaamah Zardaq رحمه الله reports that upon the demise of the author of Dalaa’ilul Khairaat, the fragrant smell of musk and amber used to spread forth from the grave. This was due to the blessings of the Durood.

Allah, the most Generous has favoured this Ummah with this bounty of Durood Shareef. What greater fortune can there be for us. We ought to die for such an opportunity and make an all-out effort to read as much Durood and Salaam as possible with love and passion. Countless virtues of Durood Shareef have been mentioned in the Mubaarak Ahadith.
One of them is:
عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: من صلي علي واحدة صلي الله عليه عشرا (صحيح مسلم الرقم 408)
Hazrat Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه reports that Hazrat Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم said, “Whoever sends salutations upon me once, Allah Ta’ala will send salutations (i.e. reward him and shower His mercy) upon him ten times.”
Shaikhul Hadith, Moulana Muhammad Zakariyya Sahib رحمه الله writes:
“A single mercy from Allah Ta’ala is sufficient for the entire world. Here, Allah Ta’ala is sending ten mercies to the person who sends a single Durood upon Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم. What greater rewards can one hope for? How fortunate are those pious whose routine it was to recite Durood 125 000 times daily as is the case of the elders in our family.” (Fazaail Durood pg.24)
With these virtues in mind, the righteous servants of Allah Ta’ala, in every era, gave great importance to reciting Salaat and Salaam in abundance. For this purpose, a large number of these ardent lovers of Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم also compiled collections of Salaat and Salaam. Some of these collections contain formulae of Salaat and Salaam which have been narrated in the blessed Ahadith. Others, according to the choice and liking of the compiler, consist of other formulae that brim with love, admiration and reverence for Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم. Undoubtedly, the most virtuous formulae are those which are directly transmitted from Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم himself; however, presenting Salaat and Salaam in one’s own words to express one’s love for Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم has remained a practice of the pious predecessors too. Ulama have explicitly mentioned that the best form of Durood is Durood Ebrahim. Together with this, there is an entire, exotic orchard of Salaat and Salaam in which all the different words and forms of Durood Shareef are found. The enjoyment and taste of each is different. Every reader’s taste and preference is also different. One person may enjoy a certain Durood more while a second person may enjoy another.
As for the Kitaab Dalaa’ilul Khairaat, then you may recite it daily expecting the virtues and blessings of Durood Shareef. Darul Uloom Zakariyya has also published Dalaa’ilul Khairaat with the Hizbul Azam divided into parts to easily recite daily.
And Allah Ta’ala knows best.

يَا رَبِّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ دَائِمَاً أَبَدًا عَلَى حَبِيْبِكَ خَيْرِ الْخَلْقِ كُلِّهِمِ
“O Sustainer, shower Salaat and Salaam forever and ever upon Your beloved, who is the best of all creation.”
جَزَی اللہُ عَنَّا نَبِيَّنَا مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّی اللہُ عَلَیْه وسَلَّمَ بِمَا هُوَ أَھْلُهُ
May Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله reward our Nabi Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم on our behalf such a reward that is due to Him.
