Durood Shareef; A Means of Raising a Person’s Rank

Hazrat Umar رضي الله عنه reports that on one occasion, Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم went out to relieve himself and there was no one present to accompany him (to assist him to make wudhu after relieving himself). Hazrat Umar رضي الله عنه then came out and followed Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم with a utensil (of water). (When he reached Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم,) he found Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم present by a small pond in the state of sajdah. Hazrat Umar صلى الله عليه وسلم then moved away and sat behind Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم. He remained waiting for Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم until Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم lifted his head from sajdah.

Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم then mentioned to him, “O Umar, you conducted excellently. You moved away and waited for me when you found me in the state of sajdah. (I had prostrated before Allah Ta’ala out of gratitude because) Jibreel صلى الله عليه وسلم had come to me and said,

‘The one who recites durood upon you once Allah Ta’ala will send ten mercies upon him and raise him by ten stages.

(The Blessed Sunnah of Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم vol.3 pg.271)

“The Noble Personage of Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم

Hazrat Mufti Ahmad Khanpuri حفظه الله beautifully mentions,

“The noble personage of Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم was entirely musk and ambar. Hence the reciter of Durood Shareef also receives some portion from this fragrance of the personality of Rasulullah Only a person who has love and reverence for Rasulullah in his heart will be excessive in Durood Shareef.”

Poetry

Allah Ta’ala is going to ask me, “What (deeds) have you brought?”

I will say, “The name of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم”

If you desire wealth of both the worlds,

Make the name of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم your Wazifah.

Durood Shareef in Spare Time

A person wrote to Shaikhul Hadith Hazrat Moulana Muhammad Zakariya Sahib رحمه الله saying: “When I complete my Wazifahs, my Ma’mulat and my Tilawah etc. many times I still have some time. What should I do in that time?” Hazrat رحمه الله replied: “Recite Durood Shareef in that time.” So we should try and keep our tongues moist with Durood Shareef.

 How to Recite Durood Shareef

It is preferred that we sit with concentration and recite Durood Shareef, but even if it is recited whilst engaged in our work, it will earn us great rewards. We should recite Durood Shareef with complete love for Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم, not as a duty or not even for the sake of the rewards.

(Importance and Significance of Durood Shareef pg.30)

“O Sustainer, shower Salaat and Salaam forever and ever upon Your beloved, who is the best of all creation.”

May Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله reward our Nabi Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم on our behalf such a reward that is due to Him.
