It is narrated from Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنهما that Rasulullah صلي الله عليه وسلم would supplicate at the time of distress with the following words,
“There is no deity besides Allah Ta’ala The Greatest, The Most Tolerant. There is no deity besides Allah Ta’ala the Rabb of the skies and the earth, and the Rabb of the divine throne” (Bukhari #6345)

An Amazing Incident
Abu Bakr Razi رحمه الله says, “I was in Isfahan, studying Hadith under Abu Nuaim رحمه الله. There was a learned man there by the name of Abu Bakr Bin Ali رحمه الله , who was the Mufti of the area. Someone stirred up an issue between him and the leader, which led to his imprisonment.
I saw Nabi صلي الله عليه وسلم in a dream, with Jibreel عليه السلام on his right whilst his lips were continuously moving with Tasbeeh. Nabi صلي الله عليه وسلم said to me, “Tell Abu Bakr Bin Ali رحمه الله to recite the Dua of distress, the (above) Dua from Bukhari until Allah Ta’ala allows his release”.
The next morning, I informed Abu Bakr Bin Ali رحمه الله of my dream. He began reciting the Dua, and within a short span of time he was released. (Fathul Bari v.11 pg.147)
In our circumstances this is definitely a Dua for us to hold onto and include in our daily schedules.
May Allah Ta’ala grant us the ability to practice. Ameen.
