‘Evil-Proof’ Your Marriage (Part 5)

7. Surah Falaq and Surah Naas

The final two Surahs of the Qur’an, Al-Mu’awazatayn (Surah Falaq and Surah Naas), are among the most powerful means of instant protection against evil. Make it a habit to recite them regularly—after every Salaah, before sleeping, and whenever fear or anxiety arises.

Before bed, it is Sunnah to recite these Surahs together with Surah Ikhlaas, then blow into your palms and wipe them over your entire body. This practice can also be done after each Salaah. Adding Ayatul Kursi and other verses of protection further strengthens this shield.

As narrated:

The Prophet ﷺ would recite Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad, Qul A‘udhu bi Rabbil-Falaq, and Qul A‘udhu bi Rabbin-Naas, then blow into his hands and wipe them over his body, beginning with his head and face, repeating this three times. [Bukhari: 5017]

8. Abstaining From Sin

As discussed in the last article, anything contrary to Shariah attracts evil Jinn. Ensure our homes are sin free; be it music, animate objects, vulgarity, immorality etc.

9. Taharah/Purity

Always strive to remain in a state of purity. Ideally, maintain wudhu at all times. At the very least, if a fardh ghusl (obligatory bath) becomes necessary, do not delay. Being in a state of impurity makes one more vulnerable to the influence of Jinn and Sihr.

Ensure that no visible najasah (urine, stool, semen, etc.) remains in the home. However, avoid becoming obsessive—if impurity is not visible, do not imagine or assume it. This is a trap of Shaytaan, who seeks to make our beautiful Deen seem burdensome.

10. Reciting All the Masnoon Duas

The Sunnah duas provide protection at every step of life—when entering the home, eating, relieving oneself, sleeping, and more. Through these supplications, we harness Allah’s divine protection at every moment.

See the following narrations:

“When a person exits his home and recites the following Dua;

It is announced at the time, “You have been guided, sufficed and protected.” And the Shayateen flee from him. One of the Shayateen say (to the others), “What will you be able to do to a person who has been guided, sufficed and protected?”” [Abu Dawood:5095]

When a person enters his home, and he takes Allah Ta’ala’s name upon entering and before eating, Shaytaan says (to his companions), “There is no accommodation for you here, nor is there any sustenance.” When he enters, and does not take the name of Allah Ta’ala, Shaytaan says (to his companions), “You have acquired accommodation for the night.” And when he does not take the name of Allah Ta’ala before eating, he says, “You have found accommodation and a meal.” [Muslim2018]

Verily these places (bathrooms, toilets etc.) are frequented (by Jinnaat and Shayateen). Therefore, when anyone enters them, he should read,

[Abu Dawood:6]

11. Strengthening Yourself

Evil Jinnat tend to exploit a person’s weaknesses. Emotional, phycological, mental and sometimes even physical weaknesses can make us vulnerable to the attacks of Jinn and Sihr. It is vital to seek treatment if you suffer from any of these vulnerabilities. Seeking help, especially for mental health, is not a sign of weakness; it is a means of protection and strength. A little support can drastically improve one’s life. Being fit and balanced in all aspects helps guard against metaphysical evils.

12. Reciting The Dua Upon Entering The Masjid

If one recites the following Dua when entering the Masjid, Shaytaan announces, “He has been protected from me for the rest of the day.”

I seek protection is Allah Ta’ala, The Greatest, and His Majestic Countenance, and His Eternal Kingdom, from Shaytaan the rejected one. [Abu Dawood:466]

13.Saying Bismillah Before Every Action

Make it a habit of saying   بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَانِ الرَّحِيْم   before everything we do. Especially;

  • Eating
  • Closing windows and doors at night
  • Entering and leaving the toilet
  • Dressing and undressing
  • Entering and leaving the home
  • Before intimacy.

Make a habit of saying مَا شَاءَ الله or بَارَكَ الله whenever we admire anything or anyone, as advised in the Mubarak Hadith

For what would you want to harm your brother? Why didn’t you invoke the blessing of Allah Ta’ala?!  [Ahmad:3459]

This is especially important with children and their achievements. Hazrat Hafiz Qasim (Hafizhullah) notes: “Sometimes the parents’ Nazr is the most dangerous.” Saying Mashallah protects our families and possessions from the evil eye. If someone praises us or our belongings, respond with these words.

May Allah Ta’ala keep our marriages, relationships and families safe from all the forces of evil which desire their destruction. Ameen.
