Porn Addiction

Question

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

I hope you are well.

I am seriously suffering with porn addiction and masturbation and I need your help.I’ve been suffering with this disgusting addiction since I was around 13, and now I am 19 years old. I fear it will haunt me forever. Each and every time I commit this filthy sin, I repent but I keep on falling into it. I have even left social media platforms due to the various fitnahs on there. Nothing seems to be working.

Nonetheless I will never lose hope in Allah’s help and I will continue to strive to break free from this addiction.

Can you give me some advice to help me?

جزاك الله خيرا

Answer

وعليكم السلام ورحمة الله وبركاته

Alhumdulillah

The starting point

You are on the right track. In the sense that you realise that there is an urgent matter which needs attention.

Suggestion

Go to an Alim of your choice in your area and be true and open with him. The remedy of such an addiction takes few or many sessions and consultations before one leaves it completely. It varies as per individual.

In the meantime

Don’t think this issue will disappear. It may remain dormant temporarily. However, when you least expect it, it will surface its ugly head. Don’t be complacent instead take it seriously.

Alone

Spending too much time alone is detrimental for you. Thats is the point where Shaytaan gets hold of you.

What to do when on heat?

Deflect the mind when the irritating prompts come from Shaytaan. This is the easiest point. Fix it here.

Example.

If a car starts to roll slightly. Pull the handbrake up immediately. However, once it gains momentum and it’s rolling downhill. It’s almost impossible to stop. Similarly, when the desire starts coming, the mind starts wondering, the urges start brewing. It’s like junk mail coming. Don’t open it. Your computer won’t get the virus if you don’t open the mail. Do anything within the Shariah to quell these urges. Go for a walk/run. Do something to get rid of the pesky Shaytaan.

What happens if you don’t get rid of him immediately?

He snowballs his attack to more and more stronger desires that turn into desperation and then an inferno of lust is created. At this point it’s like the chop that slipped & fell into the hot coals during a braai. There is rescue for the chop but it’s a daunting task.

Prevention is better than cure.

Regret

Inshallah once you deflect with spirituality and doing some permissible activities. You will have minimal to zero regrets. In fact, you will be stronger by the grace of Allah Ta’ala. Inshallah the next time there is a knock on your heart by the pesky one. It will be easier by the grace of Allah Paak to say NO. You will start to perceive a sense of inner strength and fulfilment by the grace of Allah Ta’ala.

Progress

As the days go by and you fight back in the above-mentioned methods. This addiction will lessen more and more.

Then it will become like a distant plane in the horizon that eventually disappears.

Procrastination

Death is inevitable

It’s also unpredictable

Start today

You will win one day

INSHA ALLAH

Note

What we have suggested is just something to get you onto your feet.

Reiteration

A spiritual mentor and guide is vital and important to get you going long term.  Remember these friends of Allah Ta’ala are accessible and down to earth. As per your choice give one of them the opportunity to come into your world. You will see phenomenal changes. Inshallah

Listen and Obey

Whatever the senior tells you. Don’t question it. Yes!  you may ask for details and clarification on how to fulfill his guidelines. Be highly cooperative, respectful and easy going.
